Exodus 12 (NIV)

35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. 36 The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.

Verses 35 and 36 almost makes my mouth drop open! Who would have thought the Egyptians would have freely given the Israelites silver, gold and clothing. Things God knew they would need. I wonder if they were worried about how God would provide for them as they left on their journey. I know God has done that for me. I once had a difficult supervisor and when I left her school I thought she'd probably give me negative references. As it turned out, she told everyone what a great educator I am!

Lord I pray that we stay hopeful, knowing that You will provide for us.

Exodus 12 (NIV)

40 Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt[b] was 430 years. 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions left Egypt.

I'm not sure I can imagine waiting over 400 years for God to deliver me or my family. I often think to myself how the Israelites had such little faith after seeing all that God had done for them over the years. But, honestly, I think I'd probably be the same. 430 years is an awful long time. I sometimes I am fighting doubts after waiting just one year!

Dear father please help us to be mindful that your time is not our time. Help us continue to trust you no matter how long it takes for us to realize deliverance. And help us to pass along the faith to our loved ones, just as the Israelites did, so that when deliverance comes everyone will know it was YOU.

Chapter 11

A: Even in difficult times, we need to be certain of God’s plan to spiritually deliver us.  I say spiritually deliver us because our deliverance will not always come in this world.

2 Corinthians 4:16 -18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

I love that you said "spiritually" delivers us. That's so important for me. I know 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, but sometimes I start to believe a verse in my head, but not my heart. And I think I'm believing, but deep down I am frustrated because I don't see or feel the deliverance.

Father, I pray that we do not become so weary that we lose faith. That we remember your word and hold it in our hearts, not just our heads.

I really enjoyed Exodus Chapter 5. The discussion question asks have you ever questioned why things go wrong when you feel you've done what you're supposed to do. And how do you usually handle it. That has happened so many times in my life and I guess I like the chapter because it resonates with me. Sometimes situations like that really rattle me. It doesn't make sense. I feel that beacuse I did such and such, then such and such should happen. But I have to remind myself that I am not God. I won't always understand why things are happening the way they are happening. He sees the whole picture, I do not Does it feel unfair? Yes it does. Do I sometimes pout and complain to God? Yes I do.

I believe that jsut because these bad things are happening, doesn't mean that God's will isn't still in play. Bad stuff is still going to happen on this earth. And sometimes God is teaching something to somebody and we don't understand.

I do know that my relationship with God is not about my feelings or even what I think I know. It is about obeying His word, and following him the best that I can. And even when it doesn't make sense, and when I don't "feel" things are happening the way they should, I have to trust Him.

God bless you ladies! We are off to a good start kicking off the new year in God's word together. I don't always respond to posts, but I want to say that I have been blessed already with what everyone has been sharing here. I look forward to more insights as we study the word together

Have a lovely weekend filled with God's light.

The midwives in chapter 1 were very clear in who they needed to fear, even though they were under the king of Egypt. This reminded me that we can always find ways to stand up for God no matter who rules. Sometimes it's easy to go with the flow of society. I remember I had gotten home from Target and discovered that they hadn't charged me for an item. I drove back down to the store and went to the customer service counter to pay for it. The store clerk said something like, "Wow, you're nice." I replied, "It's a fear of the Lord." I believe that standing up for what is right and giving credit to God, can help support others in their walk, and the unsaved who may not ordinarily see christianity in practice.

God allows me a unique view, as in chapter 2 on a regular basis. As a high school counselor of a public high school, I see family lifestyles I had no idea existed. I pray and meditate that I continue to allow God to use me with these precious kids, and that I won't become "used to it" and insensitive to the needs of the kids and their families.

Scripture:
These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God's spirit in them. (Jude 19)

Observation:
The audience is us. God's people. What stood out to me was the "following their natural instincts". I believe God is clearly reminding us that our natural instincts are not always what's right. So it's important to rely on the Holy Spirit.

Application:
I loved this book. And this verse in particular. Because it doesn't just apply to "they" it applies to me. I tend to be an earthy, trust your intuition kind a gal. But this verse jumped out at me as soon as I read it as a reminder once again that we are more than animals who simply follow our insticts. We are created in God's image (Gen. 1:27). We are to listen to the Holy Spirit over our instincts. I love that! It takes some of the pressure off me!

Prayer:
Father I pray that you train me to rely more on you than my own natural instincts. Humble me dear God. Following your word and listening to you makes my life here as a Christian more clear. I don't have to wonder if I'm doing the right thing. Because I trust you, I know I am. Thank you father for being patient with me.
Amen.

Wow. I couldn't have said it better myself. You ladies have tied it up with at bow! I love that TBG says, "We need to be serious about not accepting those "little sins" in our lives," 1 John 1-2 gently reminds us that no matter how holy we may think we are, or long we've been saved, we still sin. God will forgive us if we confess. But these first two chapters just called me to be mindful of my sins.

It is so easy to get caught up in the desires of this world. And as both itsjennrose and TBG stated, it is up to us to commit to trading in media time, for God time. It's just that simple. I know I struggle with wanting to come home from work and after tidying up and getting dinner together, just wanting to collapse in front of some sort of media, whether it be Pinterest (may favorite), Twitter, Amazon Prime/Netflix, you name it. Just a way to veg out and not think about anything.  Give my brain a rest. But doing this Bible study is a bit of an accountability tool. And I always feel much better when I start my evening with the word than any form of media. It's similar to my working out. When I get up in the morning and work out before work, I feel better. When I get home in the evening and feed my spirit it's easier for me to mentally leave work and work, and I am kinder to those who matter to me :-)

God is here to help us. But we must do our due diligence and cover ourselves with his word. As TBG said, only then will we have more of a heart for things of God as opposed to this world. It is a process and we all have work to do. I so love that we are here supporting each other in our walks with God, wherever we may be. This is good.

2 Peter 2-3
Oh, 2 Peter is good stuff! I love 2 Peter. It is so direct. As TBG stated, we are a very "me centric" society - in and out of the church. 2 Peter reminds us where that attitude can lead. And it's very easy to begin to slide in that direction as there are always folk who will encourage you in your slide! But it describes this corrupt desire of the flesh as being like unreasoning animals. We are better than that with God's help.

I believe the false prophets can sneak up on you as a Christian if you are only listening and semi-worshipping your pastor. But if you keep your focus in the word, I think you'll recognize it. I once belonged to a wonderful church. I learned so much there and the pastor was truly annointed by God. But as the church grew and expanded things started to change. And it didn't sit well with my spirit. Eventually, I left that church, and it has since "fallen from glory". I often think back to how much I grew spiritually when the pastor was allowing himself to be used by God.

These days you can go to church and rarely open the Bible. It's projected on a screen for you. Or it's printed out on a handout for you to take notes. Those are good things. But, I like to pull out my notes later when I'm home and read for myself exactly what the Bible says. I expect it to line up. And it usually does. But, I think we get to know our Bible better by thumbing through and looking up verses and such.

Lastly, we are reminded of the last days, and not to be swayed by people planting seeds about why it's taking so long! Our time is not like God's time. And we don't need to be worried about that. We do need to be mindful and stay prepared. We all want God to be pleased with our efforts.

Again, good stuff. I feel encouraged
