                                                               (Proverbs 3:5-6)

We stumble of tack many times even going around and round in endless circles because we are following our own advice. When we hear the call of Christ we cannot stand aside; often what may seem crooked or illogical way to us is the straight way for God.

He will take us through the valley to have us abide on the mountain top. Gideon was a man that experienced this. When he was appointed by God to be a warrior to lead and defeat the Midianites his response was:

Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

This seems absurd in our eyes for God to choose the weakest clan but God’s sees beyond the natural and into the supernatural.

Then, God instructed Gideon to defeat the Midianites by decreasing the number of men in his army.  First, he told Gideon to tell all the men that were afraid to go home. Then, he decreased the army a second time by the method at which then men drank from the water.

Separate those who lap the water with their tongues as a dog laps from those who kneel down to drink.”
“With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands.
( Judges 7)

Gideon was left with an army of only three hundred, and with this army that seemed as though the odds were stacked against them, they defeated the Midianites!

The bible tells us that If “God is for us who can be against us.”  (Romans) When it seems impossible in our minds we must trust God and lean not on our own understanding.

Peter walked on water in his faith in God; he may have fallen, but he did walk out of that boat and into the water.

What water are you willing to step out into today? Although, the water does not have a foundation on which to stand. It may just be the safest place if God calls you out into the water…

Thank you for sharing Gideon's story. Truly amazing how God can uplift anyone at anytime!

Re: Proverbs

Scripture:
Refuse no one the good on which he has a claim
when it is in your power to do it for him (Proverbs 3:27)

Be not wise in your own eyes,
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil; (Proverbs 3: 7)

Observation:
It is easy to fall into the trap of being know-it-alls with immediate access to technology in the form of our computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. A common response that we encounter to a piece of information is "I know" when sometimes all we have is surface-level knowledge. In our daily lives, we are asked as parents, employees, citizens to know all sorts of things and to act like we know what we are talking about. A show of doubt or uncertainity is often looked down upon.

Application:
I have to believe that in whatever I need to learn, God will guide me along the right path so that my learning is Christ-centered and that even if I am only learning, or a slow-learner, my world (work, home, etc.) will still be okay.

Re: Proverbs

Proverbs 3 seemed to me to be telling me how to live. The three main principles being: Peace, kindness and truth. It was interesting how the kindness to others bit was restricted to those who are on the same side. For example it says 'Do not withold good from those to whom it is due' in verse 27 and again 'if he has done you no harm' in verse 30. That will certainly make being merciful a bit easier! I know it says elsewhere to love your enemies, I also believe it better to remain silent than stir up trouble even with those who have wronged me but I just found it interesting - that's all. If I've got it right, I also saw a list of the blessings of wise living: Good repute (v.4), healing and refreshment (v.8), life (v.22) and blessing (v.10). On a personal level, I found affirmation in this Proverb that I'm on the right path. All good so far!

Proverbs 3

Scripture 3:5-7

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.

Observations
Acknowledge (Hebrew word: Yada) -  to know, to perceive and see, find out and discern, distinguish, to know by experience, to recognize, admit, acknowledge,

Acknowledge - to recognize the authority, validity, or claims of; to take notice of

3:6 Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; Seek his will in all you do, (The Message)

Application
It is hard sometimes when things are not going the way we would like or when things are difficult or when we are not happy or are dissatisfied to really and sincerely trust God. In these times we definitely want to do what we think is wise because clearly God is not taking care of things correctly or we would not be having such a difficult time.

I wonder if I really trusted God and believed that my wisdom was not greater than His if I would be more content in patiently waiting for Him during difficult times and have more contentment. Also, I wonder if I would have a more intimate and close relationship with Him. I would not get distracted and spend my emotional and mental energy on my frustration or disappointment, but instead of listening for His voice so that I could do His work.

Observation: The word "upright" is used twice in this verse. Upright behavior means to be honorable and/or honest. If we are honest and we are careful to do what pleases God, then God will give us wisdom
Application: I need to do the best I can to glorify God. I need to continue to grow and make sure I am doing the right things. I know God will continue to make me wiser.

I love this. It helps me to be mindful of not just the scripture but application. Personally, I can be full of the knowledge of how to behavior but that doesn't mean that I always follow through with the correct behavior. I am definitely a work in progress still learning to walk upright!Theresnoplacelike Home

And I also think of uprightness of heart. To have a pure heart that is without reproach in our thoughts and motives.

And preserves the way of His saints."
                                                                   Proverbs 2: 7

Good focusing on that verse made me look at it deeper.
Justice is in God’s hands. He is the one who guards the paths of justice.

So we should not get upset when we see things that are unjust going unpunished. Obviously God calls us numerous times through scripture to stand up for and seek justice especially for those who cannot stand up for themselves. So, that is not what I am referring to.  I mean sometimes there is nothing you can do and it seems things that are not right or just are gotten away with. We need to remember that ultimately everyone anwers to God and He is the one who guards justice.

Michelle wrote:

The Lord is gracious to give us wisdon, but we must first seek it.  And if we seek it diligently we will have a greaer understanding of God.

Great point. We wonder where God is and why He is not leading or guiding us, but do we seek Him? Do we prioritize trying to know and understand Him?

Passionflower wrote:

[*]God’s wisdom is delivered loud and clear in the pages of this book, however, the voices of those who would distract you from it are just as loud.

Great reminder to be focused and guard our minds.

Passionflower wrote:

Right so I think that means I need to keep going. Keep reading. Seek understanding. Know what God's principles are so that at any moment I am ready to apply that knowledge in order to live wisely, in safety and without fear. Bring it on!

Love that!

Re: Proverbs

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
    Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
(Proverbs 4:23-24)

The bible says that from the heart the mouth speaks. It reminds me that “we can’t serve two masters” because we only have one heart. We must chose to love God and to release the idols of this world as ongoing process.

Our mouth will reveal where heart lies. On its own “Our heart is desperately wicked above all things who can know it?”  When we are left to our own devices our heart will deceive us. It can’t bear good fruit on its own because it is wicked.

Having a heart of gold is as difficult similar to those that travel the road of training for an Olympic medal; it is a rare thing.

Although we may never be filled with hearts of gold, when we see glimmers of it in one another it makes it hard to not continue down the path to obtain what we can.

Application

I am in love with love… It has taken hold of my mind and heart and I am going down that path…

Because of the love that I have received from others, I want nothing else than to bear good fruit…

Living for God like there is no tomorrow; hoping that if tomorrow does come… it will be a better place.

I love the hebrew definition of acknowledge. Waitng during difficult times is hard. I have also found myself wanting to react on my own accord instead of waiting and listening to the wisdom from above.

Re: Proverbs

Proverbs 4

Scripture
Ponder the path of your feet;
then all your ways will be sure.
Do not swerve to the right or to the left;
turn your foot away from evil (Proverbs 4:26-27)

Observation
"Enter by the narrow gate.  For the gate is wide adn the way is easy that leads to distruction, and those who enter by it are many.  For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life and those that find it are few."  Matthew 7:13-14

Application
By staying in God's Word, by spending time in prayer, by interacting with other Christians, by sitting under solid teaching at church.  These are all ways that I ponder the path of my feet.

Awesome! I love all these ways you put your faith into action!! I have so much more to grow in how I spend my time to be more glorifying to God.

Re: Proverbs

Scripture:
"But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day" Proverbs 4:18

Observation:
As Christians we are supposed to shine. We see that in this verse and also when Jesus tells us to "let our light shine before men so that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven" in Matthew 5:16. When we shine we glorify God and we also show other people how to glorify God.

Application:
This verse shows me how I am supposed to live as a Christian. I want to shine bright. I want people to see me as a woman who lives a life glorifying God.
